Here's my second entry for this year's "Summer Wish List" event at [community profile] rarepair_shorts. The wonderful Phantomtomato has given me beautiful gifts, and I wanted to reciprocate. Like me, PT is a fan of second-person and first-person povs, so I relished the chance to use them. I'd intended the fic to be a lot more femmeslashy, but the characters had other ideas.

Title:
Earth is the Right Place for Love, Part I
Earth is the Right Place for Love, Part II
Earth is the Right Place for Love, Part III
Author: Anonymous for now [personal profile] eldritcher
Characters: Madam Rosmerta/Minerva McGongall/Severus Snape, Griselda Marchbanks, others

Do yourself a favor and set aside a few hours to lose yourself in this treat of a story. No rec I write can do justice to the complexity and atmosphere of this insight-packed, magical, poetic story. The style is lush and dense, even confusing at times, which is part of the magic and mystery, reminding us that not everything in the world is explicable or clear. There are lines and phrases you'll want to ponder and linger over, characterizations and ideas you'll want to savor. This is a story that repays study and rereading.

The prompt I offered was a line from my favorite Robert Frost poem, "Directive": "if you'll let a guide direct you / Who only has at heart your getting lost"

The author took this line and not only ran with it, but won the entire marathon. Written in three intertwined "canticles," the story includes and builds on cornucopia of Frost poems: "Mending Wall" and "The Black Cottage" and "Birches" and "Directive" and "The Death of the Hired Man" and (I think) "Mowing" and more that I'm not remembering at the moment. Through repetition and revision, the author weaves together Frostian images, themes, and lines into a marvelous complex tapestry. It's Frost rewritten and reinvented for HP, and it works beautifully. I was moved and breathless by the end; the atmosphere stayed with me.

Go read! You won't be sorry.

I wrote this short fic in a whirlwind rush for the [community profile] rarepair_shorts 2021 Numbers Game Fest.

The premise was fun: you submitted the name of a character plus seven numbers (or just the numbers, if you wanted to be totally surprised re: characters). The numbers corresponded to lists of male and female characters, but only the mods knew which numbers went with which person. Your task as writer/artist was to create a fanwork using your randomly-assigned pairings.

You'll be surprised to hear that I chose Minerva McGonagall as my character, and my seven possible pairings were hilarious: Arthur Weasley, Gabrielle Delacour, Katie Bell, Oliver Wood, Eileen Prince, Tom Riddle Sr, or Helga Hufflepuff.

Any one of these would have been an enjoyable challenge, but I went with Helga.

Title: Ofnadwy
Pairing: Helga Hufflepuff/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: PG
Word Count: 650
Summary: As a ghost in Hogwarts Castle, Helga Hufflepuff feels the world as deeply as she did when she was alive.

Here's my entry for this year's [community profile] wand_in_a_knot fest. The premise is really fun: each participant gets "tagged" by a previous participant and given a prompt. We then have 24 hours to create a story or art with an R or NC-17 rating. Any characters, any kink. So basically insta-porn. It's a really enjoyable challenge.

My prompt came from [personal profile] mywitch:

You're the picture of the devil's daughter,
I'm a pitcher of holy water.

I flung angels and devils and holy water up into the air, and they fell down as this story.

Title: The Devil Wears Tartan

Reveals have occurred at [info]daily_deviant's Banging Birthday fest, and I can lay claim to my story, written to an excellent prompt from [livejournal.com profile] songquake. When I saw "sapiosexuality" (being sexually aroused by intelligence) as a requested kink and "Minerva/Hermione" as a pairing option, I knew I'd found the prompt I wanted.

Now tbh, I don't think Minerva and Hermione would ever have a sexual relationship. But I always enjoy stories that make me say, "no, this would never happen. But if it DID happen, it would happen just like this." So that's the effect I tried to achieve here. I'm rather pleased with how the fic turned out; I hope you will be, too.

(Oh, and it turns out that my lovely Minerva/Severus gift, Adversaries and Anniversaries, was written by the always-excellent [livejournal.com profile] purplefluffycat. Thank you, my dear!)

This holiday season, [info]daily_deviant held a "Kinky Kristmas" comment fest, where members got to post wishes, and any reader or artist could choose to fill them.

I was lucky enough to receive a wonderful Minerva/Rolanda story from a writer I really admire, [livejournal.com profile] tjswhatnot.

I wanted to fulfill wishes, too, and give Kinky Kristmas fun to some of the many DD members whose work I love. My grand plans included writing for TJ, who left an intriguing Minerva/Poppy prompt, and a couple of others.

Well, December being the madhouse that it always is, and me being the procrastinator that I always am, these grand plans did not come to fruition. But late on New Year's Eve (the official deadline for wish-filling), I managed to finish and post the following ficlet for another of my much-admired writers, [livejournal.com profile] mindabbles. So that you will not expect too much, I'll sound the usual caveats: I wrote it quickly! It's unbeta'd! I'd had a glass (well, okay, three) of champagne!

TJ, I still have plans to fill your Minerva/Poppy wish (not to mention plans to finish [livejournal.com profile] therealsnape's much-belated birthday fic), so stay tuned.

Title: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

Here's the story I wrote for this year's [info]minerva_fest. Though it was a coincidence, the title turned out to be rather fitting: the last story posted in the last running of the fest. I'll seriously miss [info]minerva_fest; it's been a staple of my life for five year and has yielded many, many wonderful stories and artworks. But it's time to move on (for now, anyway).

I always enjoy subverting Minerva's Pottermore backstory -- so here's another version.

Reveals have gone up at Remix Redux 2015 and Remix Madness 2015, and now I can lay claim to the following fics:

1. My official "Remix Redux" was a Star Trek: Voyager story for Miri Cleo, a writer new to me whose fic list offered a wonderful cornucopia of stories featuring Captain Janeway. I debated between remixing her fine, angsty Janeway/Crusher story, To Uncreate a Memory, but finally I couldn't resist lure of returning to one of my favorite VOY pairings, Janeway/Seven. Cleo's story is from Janeway's pov; my remix offers Seven's view. The result:

Penchant (The "Poetry" Remix) (Janeway/Seven; PG; ~1500 words). (With many thanks to my fine beta-reader and VOY friend of old, [livejournal.com profile] aabbey)

Here's Cleo's original: Poetry (Janeway/Seven; PG; ~600 words)

2. For Remix Madness, I did a very short remix of an atmospheric little piece by [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2. Her's is from SS's pov; mine is from MM's.

The Taking of a Toast and Tea (the "Rest for the Weary" Remix) (Minerva/Severus; G; 318 words)

I think of it as taking place in the "Adela" universe (stories here and here), but you don't need to have read either of those stories to enjoy the remix.

Here is AstroGirl's original: Rest for the Weary (Minerva/Severus; G; 330 words).

I was lucky enough to receive two excellent Remix gifts; I can now reveal their authors:

Older and Wiser (Wilhelmina/Irma) was written by Epikoinos.

Like Nobody's Watching (Janeway/Paris) was written by Syrena of the Lake.

Both of these writers are new to me. I'm off now to read everything they have written!

If you get a chance, check out all the HP remixes at Redux and Madness -- fun reads all.

[info]femslash_remix has finished posting (though there's an amnesty period to come). I love remixing in general and femslash in general, and I particularly love it when all the stories in a femslash remix fest feature Minerva!

It was a small but dandy little fest (three stories). (A couple of them received very little response, which is a shame. They're excellent. You should go read them). I've already recced my remixed gift here, from [livejournal.com profile] _hannelore. The third fest entry is by [livejournal.com profile] woldy, who remixed a fun story by [livejournal.com profile] cranky__crocus.

And finally, here's my fic. The story I remixed, by [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_pole, appeared in the first run of [info]hoggywartyxmas and was one of my favorites of that year. When I saw that Maggie had offered her femslash stories for remixing this year, I jumped at the chance to revisit "Inheritance."

I hope you'll enjoy the result.

This story was my entry in the 2014 [info]hoggywartyxmas fest, one of my favorites. I've long wondered why there are no female goblins in canon, so I decided to tell their story. The fic got all sorts of lovely responses, for which I'm eternally grateful.

Title: Subversive
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kellychambliss
Rating: light R
Word Count: ~8400
Pairings: Griselda Marchbanks/female goblin OC
Summary: When Griselda Marchbanks comes to Hogwarts to administer the O.W.L. exams, Harry and his friends see a "tiny, stooped witch with a face so lined it looked as though it had been draped in cobwebs." That lined face bespeaks a long and eventful life. Here is part of her story, told by one who knows her best. Set during Order of the Phoenix.

Title: The Muggles Have a Word For Them
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: Rolanda Hooch/Aurora Sinistra, Fat Lady/Violet, background Minerva McGonagall/Elphinstone Urquart
Word Count: 8250
Summary: In which the Fat Lady plays matchmaker and learns some new vocabulary.
Author's Notes: Though JKR may be coy when it comes to directly acknowledging same-sex relationships in HP, she's kindly given us subtext galore. Fat Lady/Violet is practically canon (if you ask me), and then there are all those lovely dykes with short grey hair and monocles. So I thought it was about time that someone brought their story out into the open.

Well, HP fandom, anyway.

Yesterday was [info]hp_halloween's yearly posting of Halloween drabbles. There were nearly 60 entries, with a huge range of characters, pairings, and tones, from dark to fluffy, from gen to NC-17, from humor to heartbreak.

They came at just the right time: I was wiped out yesterday after having been at school from 7:30 am until nearly 9:00 p.m. So when I came home, I was fit for nothing but drabble-reading. I commented on every last one and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

(I got home so late that I didn't even get to hand out my Halloween candy. Now I am going to have to suffer through eating an entire bag of mini Almond Joys [though I will probably save myself from myself by taking them to school.])

Other Flisties' Entries )

Here's my own entry, written for [livejournal.com profile] dexstarr. I was pleased with the drabble when I sent it in to the fest, but when I read it after posting, I was less satisfied. It didn't flow as well as I'd hoped -- too abstract, I think; drabbles need to be more image-based. Still, it was fun to write, and I enjoyed characterizing Septima.

Title: Determination
Pairing: Septima Vector/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: age gap, hints of D/s and light bondage
Summary: On Samhain night, it's not just the universe that is disordered.
