I haven't written any Harry Potter fanfic since the final edition of the late, lamented hoggywartyxmas fest last December. I'd run out of ideas, for one thing, and I had other stuff going on, and I thought my HP-writing days were over.

But now I've been inspired to dip my toe back in the HP waters because a) I need a fantasy distraction from the disaster of Voldemort Donald Trump, and b) I wrote my first HP fanfic in 2008 because I had a broken foot. It seems only fitting that I embark on my second HP career on the occasion of my second broken foot.

(Foot update: I saw the orthopedist, and guess what! I now have an Air Cast boot. It's big, it's cumbersome, but it means that I can [lightly and gingerly] put my foot to the ground with each step I take. I still need crutches, and I can't move very far or very fast, but at least now I can hobble around without risking my neck and all my other limbs. It's a game-changer. I also invested in a knee walker, and while it's not very usable in our small apartment, it's quite sturdy, and I should be able to venture outside occasionally.)

Anyway, for my return to HP-world, I wrote an entry for adventdrabbles, a multi-fandom holiday fest run by the those HP stalwarts, the lovely torino10154 and alisanne. There's a different prompt for each Advent day.

This fic is unbeta'd, and my HP-writing muscles are stiff, so be warned! But I had fun writing.

This bit of comic porn was my entry for this year's Kinky Kristmas fest at daily_deviant. The prompter was the kind-and-wildly-talented mywitch,who asked for "Snape, by himself (thinking about: Surprise Me!)," with the kinks/themes of "wanking, getting caught" and a mood of "humorous and dirty." Her prompt was "candy cane."

I immediately had this vision of Snape sprawled on his sofa, cane (and other things) in hand, and this fic is the result. No redeeming social value whatsover. Just a whole lotta wankin' goin' on.

I recently took part in a fun fest called wand_in_a_knot. The premise is that a participant gets tagged and given a short prompt; you then have 24 hours to create and post a piece of porn featuring any characters you like.

I received my tag at about 10:30 on the morning of Sunday, May 15; by about 10:40 on Monday the 16, my porny threesome was posted and frolicking.

Is the fic any good? Well, about as good as you would expect for something written between 5:00 p.m. and 3:20 a.m! /g/

I confess that I've done a little tinkering since the initial post, but not much. What you see is what I wrote in ten hours or so. So yeah, it's a little OOC and a little rushed and a little. . .um, shall we say, implausible, but it was a blast to write. Hope you enjoy!

mini_fest was one of the very first holiday fests I participated in, back in 2009, and I thought I'd like to be part of it again this year. My 2009 fic, Not a Present featured Severus, Minerva friendship (of sorts), so it seemed fitting to return to them.

Reveals have gone up at Remix Redux 2015 and Remix Madness 2015, and now I can lay claim to the following fics:

1. My official "Remix Redux" was a Star Trek: Voyager story for Miri Cleo, a writer new to me whose fic list offered a wonderful cornucopia of stories featuring Captain Janeway. I debated between remixing her fine, angsty Janeway/Crusher story, To Uncreate a Memory, but finally I couldn't resist lure of returning to one of my favorite VOY pairings, Janeway/Seven. Cleo's story is from Janeway's pov; my remix offers Seven's view. The result:

I think of it as taking place in the "Adela" universe (stories here and here), but you don't need to have read either of those stories to enjoy the remix.

I was lucky enough to receive two excellent Remix gifts; I can now reveal their authors:

Older and Wiser (Wilhelmina/Irma) was written by Epikoinos.

Both of these writers are new to me. I'm off now to read everything they have written!

As some of you already know, I tend to hang around on the OCD spectrum, for better (often) and worse (sometimes). I spend a lot of time putting things in order and making lists and plans and FINISHING ALL THE THINGS, because I HAVE TO FINISH ALL THE THINGS, DAMMIT! I'm a completist, what can I say?

One of the things I felt compelled to finish this year was trope_bingo, Round 3.

The premise of trope_bingo is that you receive a bingo card listing a random assortment of common fanfic tropes. Your goal is to make a bingo by writing fics (or doing art, vids, fanmixes, etc.) featuring the tropes in a given line. Any fandom is fine. While creating one or several bingos is the ideal, you can qualify for each annual round just by filling one single square on the card during the calendar year of the fest.

I signed up for a 2014 card last January because it sounded like fun. But between RL and fandom commitments and my general laziness and procrastination, I didn't manage anything close to a bingo. In fact, I didn't manage to write a single trope_bingo fic.

But as I say, I'm a completist, and my failure weighed on me. I kept intending to dash off at least one fic before the year ended, but being the procrastinator that I am (it's a veritable art form with me), I put it off and didn't manage to start writing until 6:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Still, I thought, six hours should be plenty of time.

Except that I didn't really have six hours, what with Uncle coming for tea and then our NYE plans for Peking Duck.

Thus I actually had about two and a half hours to write. Okay, maybe just two, if you subtract time spent sipping a little restorative. But I pulled something together nonetheless, using the tropes of "bets/wagers" and "kidfic." To me, these options immediately said "Snape and McGonagall." I managed to post the thing with ten minutes to spare before the big ball dropped in Times Square.

So I've actually qualified for the next round of Trope Bingo! I'm not even sure I'll try the next round (since I had such spectacular success with this one /g/), but I like to keep my options open. Plus, um. . .completist. Yeah.

Anyway, if you think you'll enjoy a piece of implausible Snape!fluff written in two hours, then read on!

This story was my entry in the recent hp_silencio fest, in which the premise is to write a story with no dialogue. It was quite an interesting challenge that I enjoyed. It's not enough just to have characters who don't speak; you have to invent a scenario where lack of speech makes thematic and narrative sense.

Luckily, I had a great prompt from teddyradiator (thanks, Teddy!). She asked for a story in which Filius and Minerva keep vigil over Severus’ body the night he is killed in battle. Both remember the boy they taught, and the man he became. And she said she'd give bonus points for background MM/SS! Who could resist? Certainly not I.

Initially, I intended to tell the story from both Filius's and Minerva's POVs, as Teddy had requested. But Minerva decided -- reasonably, given the theme of the fest -- that she had nothing to say. So I focused on Filius instead, and I think the fic works better this way.

I made it to the third round (eight participants left) of hp_humpdrabbles! I thank everyone kind enough to vote for my drabble. I'm quite surprised that a Minerva/Severus pairing won (and Severus/Lucius bondage the week before), since the name of the game in this fest seems to be (mostly) kink-free Trio-Era het. (Also, as I read my drabble again, at the distance of about a week since I composed it, I think it's a bit too choppy/disconnected. Still, I had fun with it; MMSS is always a pleasure.)

The competition is getting even more fierce -- my opponent next week is the always-excellent luvscharlie -- so my chances of reaching the Final Four may be a little better than a snowball's chance in you-know-where, but not much!
