Here's my second entry for this year's "Summer Wish List" event at [community profile] rarepair_shorts. The wonderful Phantomtomato has given me beautiful gifts, and I wanted to reciprocate. Like me, PT is a fan of second-person and first-person povs, so I relished the chance to use them. I'd intended the fic to be a lot more femmeslashy, but the characters had other ideas.

Here's my first entry for the [community profile] rarepair_shorts Summer Wishlist Event of 2022. I have at least one more story planned. This is a new pairing for me, and it was a lot of fun to write.

I wrote this short fic in a whirlwind rush for the [community profile] rarepair_shorts 2021 Numbers Game Fest.

The premise was fun: you submitted the name of a character plus seven numbers (or just the numbers, if you wanted to be totally surprised re: characters). The numbers corresponded to lists of male and female characters, but only the mods knew which numbers went with which person. Your task as writer/artist was to create a fanwork using your randomly-assigned pairings.

You'll be surprised to hear that I chose Minerva McGonagall as my character, and my seven possible pairings were hilarious: Arthur Weasley, Gabrielle Delacour, Katie Bell, Oliver Wood, Eileen Prince, Tom Riddle Sr, or Helga Hufflepuff.

Any one of these would have been an enjoyable challenge, but I went with Helga.

Title: Ofnadwy
Pairing: Helga Hufflepuff/Minerva McGonagall
Rating: PG
Word Count: 650
Summary: As a ghost in Hogwarts Castle, Helga Hufflepuff feels the world as deeply as she did when she was alive.

I wrote this fic for the summer "Wish List" fest at [info]rarepair_shorts. It's a low-key fest: people post "wishes" for pairings and prompts, and then anyone who wants to can fill a wish and post the result. No commitment, no exchange. Minimum word count is only 200. (Maximum is 2000, but my fic went a little over, which isn't a problem. As I say, low-key.)

As you might imagine, very few people request older characters on their wish lists, so when I saw someone ask for Minerva/Rolanda, I was tempted. (There is also a fun request for Minerva/Augusta, so if you are tempted, feel free to indulge. The fest runs through August 20.) I haven't written much lately, and I was feeling the need for femmeslash.

I was just going to dash off a few quick words, but "a few words" for me is usually a relative term. I wrote this, asked the accommodating [livejournal.com profile] tetleythesecond to give it a quick read and make sure that it wasn't too dull/pedestrian to be posted, and then put it up on the [info]rarepair_shorts comm.

The immediate result was to drive my recipient off Live Journal: within hours of the fic's appearance, she completely deleted her journal. (I don't really think there is a causal connection, but it makes for a fun story /g/).

Anyway, my dear flisties and friends have been kind enough to greet the story with a lot of comments -- thank you, dears; I do appreciate it. And now for posterity, I post it here.
