This story was my entry in the 2014
hp_beholder fest. Although I didn't know it as I wrote, this year marked the end of this wonderful series. Beholder turned out a huge number of consistently high-quality stories and artworks featuring the HP characters I like best: those who, because of age or size or features, are rarely the focus of stories of love and romance.
I'm grateful and honored that I had the chance to participate in five of the seven editions of
hp_beholder. There are few others places in HP fandom where I would have found so many receptive, thoughtful readers for my OCs and for the pairings I was able to explore over the years: Minerva McGonagall/Severus Snape in 2010, Eileen Prince/Sybill Trelawney in 2011, Minerva McGonagall/Alastor Moody in 2012, Rolanda Hooch/Aurora Sinistra and Fat Lady/Violet in 2013, and this year's most unusual Minerva McGonagall/Neville Longbottom.
My unending thanks to the fest's originator,
bethbethbeth, who ran it from 2008-2012, and to
atdelphi, who kindly gave us two additional years. Thanks, too, to
odogoddess, my prompter/recipient, for suggesting such a fascinating, unlikely pairing as Neville/Minerva.

Title: Roses in December
Rating: R
Pairing: Minerva McGonagall/Neville Longbottom
Additional Characters/Cameos: Colin Creevey**, Filius Flitwick, Poppy Pomfrey, Severus Snape, Pomona Sprout, Ginny Weasley
Word Count: ~12,600
Warnings/Content Information (Highlight to View): *Possible underage sex -- Neville is 17*.
Summary: As teacher and student, Professor McGonagall and Mr Longbottom understand their relationship very well. But what happens when they are forced to become Minerva and Neville? Set during the DH year.
**It has been pointed out to me, quite correctly, that as a Muggle-born, Colin Creevey would not have been at Hogwarts during the DH year. But I prefer to believe that he found a way to sneak back and that Snape would just have chosen to ignore his presence unless an issue were made of it. We know Colin was there, sadly, for the Battle.
Many thanks to my superbly-helpful and kind beta ,
therealsnape, and to B for the gift of plot. "It's an homage, Perry."
