This story was my entry in the recent
hp_silencio fest, in which the premise is to write a story with no dialogue. It was quite an interesting challenge that I enjoyed. It's not enough just to have characters who don't speak; you have to invent a scenario where lack of speech makes thematic and narrative sense.
Luckily, I had a great prompt from
teddyradiator (thanks, Teddy!). She asked for a story in which
Filius and Minerva keep vigil over Severus’ body the night he is killed in battle. Both remember the boy they taught, and the man he became. And she said she'd give bonus points for background MM/SS! Who could resist? Certainly not I.
Initially, I intended to tell the story from both Filius's and Minerva's POVs, as Teddy had requested. But Minerva decided -- reasonably, given the theme of the fest -- that she had nothing to say. So I focused on Filius instead, and I think the fic works better this way.
