From a recent article about Kate Mulgrew. . .

"On top of that, she's been writing a book of poetry, which has been more difficult than she expected."

Hahaha!

She should have just asked Jewel.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that she wrote a lot of poetry in her teens (didn't we all), but the nuns tactfully told her she was better at performing than writing it. Just have to hope she's improved with time.

Can I confess to having gotten Jewel's book out of the library when I was 12? *winces from the memory* Spirit was one of the first cds I ever owned, and consequently I looked up all things Jewel. (Still think it's a decent album.)

The book was crap, of course, but I didn't realize that, I was just taken with the whole idea of poetry. And looking back, there are a *few* poems in there that are decent. They deal with the pain of growing up, and are probably decent because she had experienced what she was writing about.

I don't think Mulgrew can do worse than Jewel, at least she realizes that poetry *is* hard. I don't think Jewel ever did.
