Can I confess to having gotten Jewel's book out of the library when I was 12? *winces from the memory* Spirit was one of the first cds I ever owned, and consequently I looked up all things Jewel. (Still think it's a decent album.)
The book was crap, of course, but I didn't realize that, I was just taken with the whole idea of poetry. And looking back, there are a *few* poems in there that are decent. They deal with the pain of growing up, and are probably decent because she had experienced what she was writing about.
I don't think Mulgrew can do worse than Jewel, at least she realizes that poetry *is* hard. I don't think Jewel ever did.
