I Made It!

The east coast of the US was hit with a massive snowstorm over the weekend, so I wasn't sanguine about my chances of flying into NYC today (Sunday). But to my surprise, my flight wasn't cancelled, it wasn't late, I had no problem getting a cab at the airport, and the streets, while messy, were mostly clear. I reached my partner's apartment with no trouble at all. We went out for a pleasant late lunch /early dinner (omelette with goat cheese and fresh tomatoes and basil, yum), and now we're comfortably warm at home.

And I have reliable internet again!!! No more sitting precariously on the edge of the bed in my brother's guest room trying to find the one spot in the house where I could briefly pirate some neighbor's wireless signal. Life is good.

(One weird thing: the package I mailed to NY on Tuesday has not yet arrived, but the package I mailed on Friday arrived not only the very next day, but at the height of the blizzard.)

I am woefully behind on my fest reading, but I can offer you a rec for a short, lovely, angsty Snape, McGonagall friendship vignette -- The Innocence of Snow by [livejournal.com profile] mountainmoira, one of my favorite Snape writers. Check out her story In His Name if you haven't already done so. Her lush, evocative prose is a delight.

Glad you were lucky with the flights! I had twice 45 minutes of delays this weekend because of de-icing, but given that others were far worse off, we still considered ourselves lucky.

Enjoy the time with the family!
