Fannish Update
Sep. 25th, 2021 08:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It's been ever so long since I made a fannish post, but I haven't given up on HP! So many fun things are still happening. Here's a summary of my tiny corner of the HP fan world:
Upcoming Fests
I've signed up for. . .
snapecase = I couldn't always manage a Snapecase sign-up because the deadline came too close to finals, term papers, and other fests. But now that I'm retired, I can happily add Snapecase to my other sources of procrastination! So I'm happy to have signed up. I'm sure an idea will come to me. . . .
hoggywartyxmas = The fest of all fests for me, featuring as it does all my favorite older characters. This is Hoggywarty's 12th year, and what fine years they've all been. I received a doozy of an assignment. I can't wait for the best party of the year
I plan to sign up for. . .
hp_halloween = As with Hoggywarty, this will be my 12th year writing for HP Halloween, my favorite drabble fest. The format will be a little different this year; you can read about it here. Still 200-word drabbles, but all the posting will happen solely on A03. I totally understand why this approach makes things so much easier for the hard-working mods, but I have to confess that as a rule, I don't find A03 fests to be as communal as those on LJ and DW. It's the absence of the daily feed, I guess; it feels rather like eating at a restaurant alone rather than with a bunch of friends. The food is still good, but the atmosphere is different. Still, I'm so grateful that this fun fest is still alive, and I look forward to participating.
Recent Stories I've Written
I had a fun time last summer writing some entries for the Summer Wishlist at
rarepair_shorts. So many of my dear flisties submitted wonderful prompts. I was able to fill three of them: (I'll also post the files to my own LJ/DW at some point.)

I know it’s different for writers from a community perspective in terms of feedback. But personally as a reader I really like the AO3 fests compared to other sites because the site supports things like downloading to my kindle and screen readers. But maybe functionality like that is also reducing the comments/discussions.

Date: 2021-09-28 02:34 pm (UTC)I think I'm in the minority in not liking AO3 fests. I know the downloading function is a definite plus. The technical elements are fine -- for instance, I know how much easier AO3 is for mods, which is a major benefit, and I find the platform overall to be appealing. But the downside for me is that it does not foster discussion or community, and just from a selfish standpoint, I get far fewer comments there. Still, there are so many pluses to AO3 that I can't really complain (too much :)).
