Another disgustingly-pleasant day chez Kelly; I do apologize for the lack of angst, but just wait till school starts, and writing deadlines materialize, and other RL demons begin to lift their pointy little heads.

Today we went to the New York Fire Museum, housed in a 1905 firehouse. Fascinating; I love historical stuff like this.

We also went to an Asian market to get food for the Child's lunch (currently hooked on kimchee, he is), and I actually spent some time preparing my classes for spring.

For you Alan Rickman fans, here's an interview he's given about his upcoming play, John Gabriel Borkman. I love the way the interviewer describes his voice: "bitter and rich and sinister, like a malevolent cup of coffee." I'd add, "made smooth with a dram of firewhisky."

Rickman is quoted as saying, "The part chooses you; you don't choose it." The wand chooses the wizard, eh, Severus?

And from the fandom world. . .

My [info]hoggywartyxmas gift has been posted! It's McGonagall/Moody, one of my favorite pairings. Called The Ministry of Magic Christmas Party Scandals of 1995, Or, Old Love, it has so many of the things I love in fanfic: beautifully-IC characters, a plot that could (and should) be canon, sharp dialogue, tantalizing backstory. Don't miss it.

In fact, don't miss any of the HoggyWarty stories. I think posting at that fest will end tomorrow, and I'll do a final recs post before the reveals, but you really can't go wrong no matter what you read there. (Such as the story just posted, Love, Accidentally. It's a wizard-world version of "Love, Actually," but I like this one much better. The pairings alone make the story worth the read -- Slughorn/Filch, Sprout/Augusta Longbottom, for starters -- but the crisp, funny style and the presence of a delightful Neville are added bonuses.)

Don't forget [info]snapecase, either. I haven't had a chance to read the stories yet, but there's already been a fine piece of art: Step On (Snape/Emmeline Vance; PG but NWS). It's a sepia-toned piece of hot wizard-noir, drenched in smoke and sex. The facial expressions, the poses, Severus's indrawn cheeks and his nose…mmmm. Yet another in this not-so-mystery artist's series of fabulous fanarts.

Finally -- are any of you planning to sign up for [info]femmefest? Very unfortunately, they do screened sign-ups (I hate that), which means that I have no idea whether any participants will be interested in the older-woman pairings I prefer. I don't want to sign up only to find myself assigned to write Luna/Tonks or something, and I don't want to impose Minerva and the coven on someone who'd prefer to be writing about the Trio Era. I'd rather have some sense of who's involved before I commit.
