By this time tomorrow, I will be sailing the ocean blue (or some facsimile thereof) as my partner, the Child, and I embark on our ten-year anniversary cruise to Canada. I'm ready: I'm all packed, I've got my passport, I've got my seasick patch, my bills are paid, my hair is a fresh, strange color, and I've downloaded crime fiction and Jane Austen criticism and fanfic onto my Kindle (I plan to spend a lot of time lying in deck chairs and reading). I've written (very, very) rough drafts of two fest fics, and I hope to start a third while lounging on the aforementioned deck chairs. So anchors aweigh.
We'll be making stops in Halifax and St. John, though I don't know what we'll be doing there. I searched online today to find fun activities, but I got side-tracked. Among my many bizarre reading interests (such as female murderers, shipwrecks, famous fires, and epic natural disasters) are events that manage to blend several of these topics, so imagine my excitement when I found links to info about the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Fascinating, sad stuff. I now know all sorts of arcane details about the blast, but nothing about things to do in Halifax while on short leave from the anniversary cruise. Oh, well. Maybe the ship will have some brochures.
I'll be away from the internet for an entire five-and-a-half days, so please don't have any fun while I'm gone. I don't want to miss anything.(Exception: Germs and Holes, feel free to celebrate once you've vanquished your respective foes.)
