The anniversary cruise is now history. We had a fine time, and I found the duration (five days, five nights) to be just right. Any shorter, and it would have felt rushed; any longer, and I think it would have started to become tedious. (As I imagine it must be for the huge crew; the ship will be leaving port again tonight to repeat the very same itinerary.)
We reached NY early this morning. One of the many excellent things about living here is that once your cruise ship returns to port, you can be home in no time. The first debarkation call occurred at 7:30 a.m., and the Child and I were home by 8:30 (my poor partner had to go straight to work). Not surprisingly, the cruise people have this exit-the-ship thing down to a science; despite a long line, we were off the boat within five minutes of the gangway opening. We had only carry-on luggage, so we didn't have to wait for it at the terminal. Customs took less than 30 seconds. Our cross-town bus arrived almost as soon as we reached the stop, and so did our subway train. I still have to unpack, but that can wait a bit (not too long, though; I'm one of those obsessives who can't rest easy until all the trip stuff is put away.)
( Trip Ramblings )
I felt the pangs of internet withdrawal far less sharply than I expected to, but now I'm looking forward to catching up with you all. Hope you're all well and that some of you aren't too downcast about the Germs.
