Meanderings

I'm finally back at my desk after two weeks of family visits.  My mother and I drove to my recently-deceased uncle's house (a two-day drive, but pleasant) to retrieve family photos and such.  It was a relaxing trip, although difficult in terms of dealing with the death and with the very ghoulish feeling that comes from taking things out of someone else's home after they have died.

My Harry Potter came while I was gone.  With HP5, I read the whole thing in a marathon gulp.  This time, I'm trying to ration things out a bit more.  The first chapter was fun; of course I kept picturing Tony Blair the whole time I read.

Went to see "Batman Begins" last night with my partner and son.  The child loved it.  "Now *that* was a movie," he said.  "When is the sequel?"  Kids his age automatically assume there will be a sequel, and they are usually right.  He's not a Harry Potter fan.  "Too long, too much talking," he says.  He much prefers Lemony Snicket.

I have only one month left of my glorious sabbatical, something I try not to think too much about.  I really need another five or six years off.

Saw some recent Kate Mulgrew pictures on-line; she's gone quite blond, even blonder, I think, than when I saw her on stage last November.  I'm not sure it suits her.  I know that one has to lighten one's hair as one ages, but blond isn't for everyone.  In my opinion, Kate looks better with a light honey-brown and some highlights.  But did she ask for my opinion?  No, she did not.

I see that Rocky has posted some new Janeway fic.  I'm saving it for a sort of dessert to reward myself if I get enough work done in the next couple of days.  (Obviously, I'm slacking off now, doing LJ avoidance-behavior.  But the day is semi-young.)
