In the past couple of years, I've "won" some items (art and fic) in various fandom charity auctions. I put "won" in quotation marks because to date, I have never actually received any of these items, except for a few preliminary sketches.
By this time, I've accepted the fact that the things I won are not going to be forthcoming. And that's okay, because the money went to good causes, and I would have donated anyway, and I did get some nice sketches, and there's not much I can do about it in any case.
Still, I'd learned my lesson. I swore off charity fandom auctions forever.
Or so I told myself.
Until. . .
Until one of my favorite writers, the incomparable
delphi/
atdelphi, auctioned off a fic for
scarleteenfans, and I couldn't resist. So I bid, I won, and this time, I hit the jackpot. I asked for Minerva/Severus, and Delphi, unsurprisingly, has come up trumps.
She's written me 2500 words of exactly the sort of Snape/McGonagall I love best: understated, intelligent, taut, full of competition and angst and sex and unsentimental tenderness and exquisite language. Both McG and Snape are characterized to perfection.
Don't miss In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.
("Pot/Kettle/Black" Department of Full Disclosure -- Of course, I've owed an auction fic for months now, and my generous bidder [you know who you are] has been unendingly patient. It's coming along, my dear! Nearly there.)
