Here are my updated
snapecase recs -- now including some brief descriptions. There are some extraordinary stories here; don't miss them.
(No reveals yet, so I'll add names later. Not that some are very mysterious /g/) Done!
The best of the best are marked with ** below:
**The Lost World byAnonymous
perverse_idyll (Snape/Harry; NC-17)
An absolutely amazing story, a blazing piece of poetry that will keep you beautifully off-balance for its entirely. It's very first line is an apt description of the whole fic: it "seethes with magic," including every living exciting, dangerous, mysterious, angry, and burning connotation of "seethes" you can think of.
**The Azote Principle byAnonymous
verdeckt/
caecelia (Severus, Albus, Pomona; PG)
Another powerfully-poetic, beautifully-written story. It shares with "Lost World" a grand willingness to show Severus in all his total and glorious bastardy -- no romanticizing here. In both stories, he's the Snape I wish I could write. I really enjoyed the Pomona cameo, too
**Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree byAnonymous
duniazade (Severus, Eileen; R)
Painful and beautiful, this story offers a convincing picture of how Severus could have been cornered into Darkness. I also like the author's plausible notion that a witch/wizard who is not allowed to use magic will die of its build-up.
**Hand-Me-Down byAnonymous
dickgloucester (Tobias, Mystery Listener; PG)
One of the best depictions of Tobias Snape -- his voice, his attitudes, his understandings -- that I've ever read. Ever since I wrote my own version of Tobias, I've been fascinated by stories about him, and this one is one of the best.
Dittany for the Heart byAnonymous
leni_jess (Severus/Minerva; R)
As
snapecase neared its end, I had resigned myself to the absence of any Severus/Minerva stories. But then this one appeared, with a heartening picture of both of them. It's a different, more sympathetic version of Snape than in some of the other stories I'm reccing here, and one I find satisfying. I also like the author's non-Pottermore version of Minerva.
In the Midst of Life byAnonymous
albalark (Severus, Albus, Minerva, OCs; PG)
This story makes beautiful and effective use of the Book of Common Prayer and gives us yet another layered, believable picture of Tobias. Plus a bonus Minerva cameo.
The Other Half byAnonymous
leela_cat (Tobias, Severus, Eileen; PG)
Yet another well-done view of Tobias. I'm fascinated by the different yet IC pictures that can be drawn of him.
Magpie byAnonymous
annescriblerian (Severus, Eileen; G)
This story is a character sketch of young Severus, revealing and sympathetic. Your heart will ache for him.
