Here is my October entry for daily_deviant. The kinks this month were "bathing," "tears/crying," "arousal from danger," and "silence." This last one seemed a natural for a Severus/Minerva story, and I thought I'd be able to knock it out fairly quickly.

Hahahahaha. The writing of this story gave me absolute fits. I spent an entire weekend sporking my eyes out writing 2500 words and ended up having to trash them all (though I was later able to salvage about 200 of them).

Finally I realized that my initial premise (a formal D/s scene) was simply not right for the atmosphere/emotions I wanted. Once I scrapped that plan, I was able to write fairly quickly, although the revision process took me hours upon hours, and I was still tweaking two days after the post went up. I'd struggled so much with this fic that when I finally finished the first draft, I hated the whole thing. But now that I have a little distance on it, I'm much more satisfied.

I did the final revisions while at the Fangirl Retreat, which was apparently a place of good writing karma.

(Question: I rated this fic "R," but I'm never sure. Do you think it is explicit enough for NC-17?)
