Fannish Updates
Sep. 6th, 2019 10:39 pmHi, lovelies!
By Friday night, I don't have the mental focus for a coherent, organized post with transitions and everything. But I do want to give you a few fannish updates.
1. To quote Gilbert and Sullivan -- LOUDLY LET THE TRUMPET BRAY!! --
hoggywartyxmas is back for its tenth -- that's right, tenth year. Sign-ups open Sept. 7 (that's tomorrow!) Only 30 slots, so don't delay. Probably the best HP fest ever, and I've had the privilege of participating every year. It's the highlight of the holiday. Grateful thanks to
therealsnape for this wonderful annual party. "Blow the trumpets, bang the brasses! / Tantantara tzing boom!"

2. Prompting is also open at the tenth annual holiday
mini_fest, one of the first in which I participated. It's always fun and low-stress. Excellent banner by our own
shadowycat.

3. The world is in serious trouble. Right-wing governments are gaining strength everywhere, and former democratic strongholds (despite their flaws) like the US and the UK become more dangerously belligerent and far-right by the day, embracing ignorance and racism and mindless jingoism, actively working to destroy the planet and democracy. These are facts.
But.
Sometimes I am still able to shriek with laughter at politics, because desperate times bring forth the best humor. One of my very favorite satirists, Marina Hyde, writes for The Guardian (UK); she's biting, perceptive, witty, merciless, and true. Today, writing about the clown-slash-shitshow that is the UK under Boris Johnson, she gives us this totally priceless line: "It feels remarkable to think that barely five weeks ago, the vast majority of Tory MPs were telling us Boris Johnson was the only possible answer to various questions. It turns out [one of those] questions was: 'How would Dudley Dursley and Draco Malfoy’s baby look and behave?'"
AHAHAHA! Yes, absolutely. Morally and physically, that is exactly who Boris Johnson resembles: the offspring of Dudley and Draco.
(Here, enjoy the rest of Marina's editorial. I'm sure you could use the laughs.)
Hope you all have a great weekend.
PS -- And the Downtown Abbey movie opens two weeks from today! What is a weekend? Time for DA, that's what.
