Maggie Smith on Stage!

Check this out! Maggie Smith is returning to the stage. She'd indicated for years that she wasn't going to do any more live theater, yet here she is. Just a short run, but still. Wish I could get to it. I'd be thrilled if she'd bring it to New York, but that's a big undertaking; I doubt it will happen. Maybe one of those filmed live performance, though?

I don't know what to think about the subject matter. I don't really know anything about this women Brunhilde Pomsel, but she sounds pretty dubious (I mean, even if she didn't know the full extent of what was going on, I'd think she might at least have a few qualms about doctoring rape stats and the like. Then again, maybe she convinced herself that it was necessary: you're lying about the details in service of a "larger truth" or something. I have a relative who does that.) Of course, flawed people make good theater, but there are a lot of dangers in misrepresentation; it's easy to gloss over moral issues. I hope they present a nuanced picture.
