Upstairs at the Abbey. . .

Why am I telling you this? Because she has been signed to play the Countess of Grantham's American mother on Downton Abbey for Season Three.
Even though MacLaine affects me like fingernails on a blackboard, I'm pleased with this news because it appears that her character will be playing off against the Dowager Countess of Grantham (aka Maggie Smith). And perhaps this means that Maggie will actually have something to do in forthcoming episodes! I hope there's an actual plot, and not just Smith and MacLaine exchanging barbed zingers, fun though that will be.
