kelly_chambliss: (Book Collector)
Today was my annual bookhunting (and eating and drinking) trip with my equally book-obsessed colleague. We had excellent warm weather and a pleasant drive of about two hours each way, stopping at antique malls and bookstores and good supermarkets (a real treat for those of us in the sticks). I bought lots of bread (whole wheat, rosemary/sea salt, sunflower seed/whole grain), an 1880s biography of Charlotte Cushman (19th-century American stage actress), and some lit crit. I didn't find any books for my collection, but my needs are so specialized now that I didn't expect to. Dinner was Indian, of course, and the leftovers will make a delicious lunch for tomorrow.

A grand time was had by both.

I've been catching up on my [info]hp_beholder reading in fits and starts over the last couple of days, so I should have recs soon.

Meanwhile, have some April Fooling in May. The reveals for [info]hp_april_fools will occur soon, so I thought I'd throw out a couple of recs. (In case you're not familiar with this fest, the idea is that writers have to create art and artists have to write. The results can be hilarious.)

My favorites:

Never Surrender (Firenze/Dobby, Severus Snape/Bill Weasley, cat!Minerva/Hagrid's dog, Kingsley Shacklebolt/Mad-eye Moody/Lucius Malfoy/Narcissa Malfoy)
This witty piece is worth looking at for Moody's eye alone. And the rest is great fun, too (keep an eye out for Minerva's hat).

Connection in an Isolating Age (Tom/Minerva)
This one is creepy in a Victorian, sepia sort of way.

Spoon (Fred/George)
Normally, I'm not much of a Weasleycest fan, but the technique of this art is really astonishing.
