30 Days of HP Meme -- Day 15
Aug. 20th, 2010 10:09 pm~~~~We interrupt this meme for an announcement of unmatched fannish importance: It's been reported that Alan Rickman's production of John Gabriel Borkman will be coming to NYC in January. Now if only Fiona Shaw comes, too, my joy will be complete. I'll be able to add her to my list of "Great British Actresses Seen Live on Stage" AND I'll get to see Rickman do Ibsen!! *screams/flails/screams some more*
Hem-hem. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled meme~~~~
( Ghost of Questions Past )
Day 15. Favorite movie.
This question is very difficult to answer at the moment, because I've seen each film only once, in its first theatrical release. And except for HBP, I saw all of them in my pre-obsessive-fandom days. So they were just a mild pleasure at the time, one that I mostly enjoyed, but wasn't terribly invested in. I didn't always remember the details of the books by the time the films came out, so I usually wasn't too bothered by changes. I do remember a) being unhappy about how Minerva was shortchanged in Order of the Phoenix (she's always been my favorite character, though I've sometimes been less than thrilled with the film version of her), and b) being baffled by the lack of explanation for the Marauders' Map; I remember saying to the Child as we left the theatre that anyone who hadn't read the books would be totally confused. "Like me," he said.
I had planned to use this meme as an excuse to rewatch all the films, but my fic deadlines are such that I can't do it any time soon. However, on my recent book-hunting trip with the family, I got a (slightly used) boxed set of the DVDs of all six films. So I will watch them at some point this semester and perhaps return to the meme with addenda.
For the moment, then, I'll say that I do also remember how fun it was to see Hogwarts for the first time in Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone. The films have all been visually stunning and inventive.
