WTF?

This afternoon, I had a lovely, long lunch with [personal profile] magnetic_pole, [personal profile] bethbethbeth, and [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_v. They were all just as fun and fascinating as I had expected, and somehow four hours passed in a blink.

But then a weird thing happened -- I began to feel dizzy and faint, my hands got all tingly, my brain seemed to separate itself from my body, people's voices started to recede, and I thought (in a vague, disconnected way) that I might very well fall over. "I feel very strange," I said (or something to that effect), and the others kindly helped me into a cab, and I came home.

After some time spent lying in a daze on the sofa, I began to feel slightly more human. As soon as I could manage it, I propped myself up and got on-line to test out a theory that had occurred to me during the surreal cab ride home: could I be suffering withdrawal symptoms from the seasickness patch I'd worn on my recent cruise? (It was the only unusual thing I'd done lately that I thought might account for these bizarre symptoms [and I was trying not to let myself think that it might be stroke or something else dire].) And sure enough: evidently "a small percentage of [patch] users" reported symptoms exactly like mine within 24-48 hours after they stopped using the patch.

Well. If I ever take a cruise again, I think I'll just risk the seasickness. It can't be much worse than this "cure." (I'm much better now, but sitting up and/or walking around still doesn't seem like a good idea.)

I had planned to do a lot of writing this evening, but now I don't think that will happen. I'm just glad this weird drug thing didn't start until our fandom lunch was nearly over; I would have hated to miss it.
