Daily Deviant Recs
Mar. 23rd, 2010 10:26 pmProcrastination time for me means fic recs for you.
daily_deviant is having a very imaginative fourth birthday celebration for March: members of the comm were invited to remix works that other members had previously published. People could write sequels or prequels or do illustrations or just let themselves be inspired in some way by others' work and art.
It has worked a treat. I've already recommended a couple of the results here and here. Now I'd like to share two more, both of which show you exactly a) why the comm is called "Daily Deviant" and b) why I love it so much.
Confess: You have devoted at least a second or two to wondering about the whole animagus/sex thing: While in animagus form, do people have sex with their animal brethren? And just what might that be like?
Well, wonder no further, because the DDs (Dear Deviants) at DD will explain. They offer two excellent, hilarious, well-written, and quite believable answers to these questions. Check out
eeyore9990's Here, Pussy, about what happens when cat!Minerva pals around with Crookshanks. Then after you have finished howling with laughter and admiration, read
thegildedmagpie's sequel/companion piece There, Pussy, about what happens when Minerva (for good pedagogical reasons) transfigures Crookshanks into a cat-man.
As I told The Gilded Magpie in my review, if Minerva could become a cat and if she could turn Crookshanks into a man and if they had cat/wo/man sex, it would happen just like this.
And it's not all crack, by any means. JKR treats animagi mostly for laughs and as plot devices; except for Sirius's explanation of how being a dog helped him stay sane at Azkaban, she doesn't really go into the psychological implications of it all. But what both Eeyore and Magpie do beautifully is to show us just how alien a state the animagus occupies. What might it mean really to transform into an animal? After reading these stories, you'll know the answer better than you ever thought you could.
(I love that both Eeyore and Magpie say that they watched cat porn on YouTube as research for their stories. God, I love the internet. I watched horsebreeding pron to prepare for writing centaur sex, too. All of this stuff is so damned educational.)
Okay -- back to fic writing now.
