Spring Break, Day 6
Mar. 11th, 2010 11:53 pmToday was just the sort of day I enjoy -- nothing to rush to. My partner and I went to brunch and the supermarket (Whole Foods, where I indulged my carb gene and bought hotcross buns and have already eaten half of them). I got a bit of writing done (though not enough), and I even took a nap, something I do only a couple of times a year.
I read a bit of fanfic, too, so here are some recs from the
rarepair_shorts current exchange; the reveals will go up soon. My first rec post is here -- glorious older-woman femmeslash.
Other stories I enjoyed:
**Craven -- Regulus Black/James Potter; dark and painful and beautifully-written. Really a fine story.
How Quickly the Glamour Fades -- Pansy/Neville; bleak and touching. The commentators have been divided about the ending, but I think it's just right.
Admissions -- Sirius/Lily; another interesting character study with the sort of indeterminate ending I like.
It's French, Finnigan -- Pansy/Seamus; I would never have read this pairing had it not been part of the fest, but I'm glad I did; funny and snarky with a fun Pansy and an interesting take on Seamus (not, I admit, a character to whom I've given much thought).
Question for the German speakers: When you report indirect speech -- (not an actual quotation, but just the content of what someone said, like, "When I asked her, she said she was Italian") -- do you put the person's comment in the past tense?
