Excluding (temporarily) the 78K novel, I have managed to finish reading all the stories for
hp_beholder, and I want to offer two final recs before the reveals on Sunday.
The Two Names of Xiomara Rolanda Hooch (Hooch/McGonagall) byAnonymous

This quiet, understated story is only 2400 words, but it packs a lot of insight. On a thematic level, it's a story about many things -- desire and mother/daughter relationships and queer history and the power of naming -- but on a simpler level, it's a tale of two of my favorite fictional women as they grow into themselves.
Professor C. Binns: A Personal History (Cuthbert Binns/Walburga Black) byAnonymous

I clapped aloud when I saw this fic come up on the Beholder feed. I've long wanted a story about Binns, and this one is great; it's become my personal canon. Poignant, heartbreaking, and uplifting, it provides a believable picture of Binns as a man who falls somewhere on the autism spectrum. In making sense of his world, he shows us new ways of looking at our own. In the end, though, his story is a love story, and what a moving one it is.
What a great range of pairings we've had at Beholder this year. Just a few of my favorites: Galatea Merrythought/Griselda Marchbanks; Stan Shunpike/Mundungus Fletcher; Horace Slughorn/Irma Pince; Garrick Ollivander/Rubeus Hagrid; Silvanus Kettleburn/Millicent Bulstrode; Cuthbert Binns/Walburga Black; Augusta Longbottom/Andromeda Tonks, and of course, the Little Black Snape with -- Minerva, Arabella, Petunia, Alastor, Viktor, Goyle, Sinistra, Abraxas, Irma, Amelia, and a sort of threesome with Millicent and Silvanus.
