No, I don't have anything interesting to say; I just wanted another excuse to use my St. Snape Patrick icon before it's too late (see LJ). And it's still technically March 17 where I am.

I've actually had a fairly productive day: 9 short papers graded, 5 long papers graded, and substantial inroads made on my [info]hp_beholder story. Tomorrow will be more of the same.

I did not go out for a St. P-Day drink, which I always did in my youth. I did it then because a) I grew up in a town with substantial population of people of Irish descent, and St. P's Day (American style) was always a big deal; b) my BFF's family was from County Mayo, and they were active in a local Irish-American club; c) half my mom's family was also from Ireland, so I felt a moral responsibility to celebrate, and d) all the bars in town served green beer (for beer-drinkers, of which I am not one), green ginger ale (for teetotalers like my BFF), and (if you asked for it, and I did) green G&Ts for us hard-stuff drinkers. I thought about making myself a green G&T here at home, but ultimately couldn't be arsed to get out of the recliner.

But that didn't stop me from reading fun things. Here, have a nice, ansgty Minerva/Severus ficlet from [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2: Where It Ends. Astrogirl is only a fairly recent convert to MM/SS and isn't even a big HP fan, which only makes her perceptive take on the characters all the more impressive. An excellent read.

And speaking of fun things, here's a new femmeslash fest that should interest many of us: [info]darkwitches. It is, as its name suggests, an exchange that will feature dark femmeslash.

This fest fascinates me for a variety of reasons. I've long been wanting to write a dark!fic with some of the OLSB, and here seems the perfect opportunity. Genuinely thoughtful dark!fic is rare, good female dark!fic is rarer still, and femmeslash overall is still woefully under-represented in the HP fandom. So this fest has great potential. There may end up being a lot of overwrought slave! and PWP torture!fic (not to bash such; they're just not my fave genres), but I don't mind it in small doses. So I'm seriously considering this fest and hope some of you will, too.

Crack_Broom Question: What's up with [info]crack_broom? I don't think I've seen a post there all month. I know there have been problems getting enough reccers in the queues, but still -- 17 days without a single post? I hope the high-flying Crack Broom isn't plummeting towards a fiery crash. I really enjoy that comm.

One of the Many Things that Bugs Me: I have a female colleague (FC) in her 50s who persists in talking like a five-year-old. Here's just one example: we recently had a guest speaker on campus, and FC was going to pick the speaker up to bring her to dinner. "I'll be there at 6:00," said FC, "but don't worry if I'm a few minutes late. I have to run home to take care of my doggie and kitty-cats." (Imagine this said in a breathless half-giggle.)

Now, what would make a professional woman of 54 or 55, in a professional situation, think that referring to her pets as her "doggie and kitty-kats" is a reasonable or appealing thing to do?

Grr. This is why I want to read some good fic about dark!women.

I've been wondering about crack_broom myself. First it was a week before they told people who was posting, then two. Now it's almost three? Whoever's in charge of scheduling/tracking over there is really falling down. It's to the point that I don't even want to encourage people in the Dramione comms to sign up, despite us running close to getting dropped to rare or part-time or whatever it's called.

The Dark Witches Fest sounds fascinating, especially when there's hope for old lady slash. I don't know if I'll manage to write, though it's really tempting ... but I'll certainly follow it.

What is the green in a green G&T? Just color or another liqueur?

Congrats on Beholder progress. I will start it NOW!

Between [livejournal.com profile] nextgendarkfest and this [livejournal.com profile] darkwitches, it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep to my no-fic writing hiatus.
