My friends, it's Christmas in June!
rarepair_shorts is running its summer wish-list event. I always submit a wish list with the rarest pairs I'd like to see, though I am always totally sure that they won't get written.
I am happy to say that this year, I am totally wrong.
I have hit the rare pair jackpot this time: I've received two fabulous gift fics, by two wonderful writers, with two pairs that I've long dreamed of. Hie yourselves over to read them; you won't be sorry.
Title: He goes knocking at night
Author:
digthewriter
Pairing: Minerva McGonagall/Kingsley Shacklebolt
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 780
Told from Kingsley's point of view, the story offers a fascinating take on post-Hogwarts Minerva. Dig captures an entire complex world in less than 1000 words.
I think I've seen a Kingsley/Minerva fic or two over the years, but not nearly as many as I'd like to. I'm glad to be able to add this well-crafted, creative gem to my collection. Thank you, Dig!
Title: the pilgrim soul in you
Author:
eldritcher
Pairing: Walburga Black/Severus Snape
Rating: R
Word Count: 2,100
I never expected to see a Walburga/Severus story at all, let alone a brilliant one. But it's by Eldritcher, so I trust I need say no more.
I'm a sucker for well-written second-person that suits the characters, and this fic delivers in spades. Just breathtaking. Thank you, Eldritcher!
(And while you're reading rare pairs, check out the excellent gift that Eldritcher wrote for
mywitch -- the strange heart beating where it lies [Severus/Rosmerta]. Both these fab fics use W. B. Yeats lines as titles, and Eldritch gives old William Butler a run for his imagistic money. Fantastic.)
There are still a couple of months to go on the Wish List Summer Event, so stay tuned! I plan to write a few entries myself.
