I've spent a lovely, indulgent weekend doing mostly fannish things, with a foray out into the real world for Indian food and resale shoe-shopping. (I wasn't going shoe-shopping myself; I was with a friend who needed running shoes.) I heroically resisted the siren song of these boots, which would have cost me only $30 in the resale shoe shop. They were amazingly comfortable, too. But believe me when I say that I have enough shoes.

The [info]snapelyholidays assignments are out. I'm very happy with mine, although I had to ask for a reassignment initially. I was reluctant to do it, since I know how much of a hassle the match-up process is. But my first prompt, though really intriguing, was beyond my abilities. I'll look forward to reading what someone else does with it, but trust me, the recipient will be glad I voted myself off that particular island. The mods were as gracious as could be in making the switch; my witch's hat is off to them.

And this morning, in the shower, I had a semi-idea about what I might do with my new prompt. I hope I can make it work. As I said to [profile] atdelphi the other day, I don't know what people like Shakespeare and Austen did for inspiration in the days before showers.

I spent a bit of time scoping out the sign-ups for [info]smutty_claus (a het exchange fest), and I'm tempted to sign up just on the off-chance that I might get assigned [livejournal.com profile] odogoddess's prompt: she's asked for Augusta/Ollivander!! (And she wants Ollivander to be a virgin!) Wouldn't that story be fun to write? And someone else asked for Minerva/Moody. Otherwise, though, there's not much I feel up to doing. So as with [info]hp_yule_balls, I'll just be an enthusiastic reader.

[personal profile] therealsnape and [personal profile] tetleythesecond and I have been planning our panel for next year's DiaCon Alley convention in Canterbury. It's really fun to do academic work when it counts as procrastination from fics I'm supposed to be writing. But I did get about 1200 words written.

Finally, there are a couple of interesting-looking new communities on DW. One is [community profile] hp_femmeslash for -- you guessed it -- femmeslash. Any rating allowed. And the other is [community profile] notfic, for nonfiction fan-related essays and meta.

Oh, and I'm thinking (maybe) of doing the [info]hp_random_facts fest, too. I've enjoyed the other entries, and it sounds fun, short, and low-pressure. We'll see: it depends on if I make progress on my other outstanding commitments.

Tomorrow is a legal holiday for many people in the US. If you're one of them, I wish you a fine and lazy day.
