30 Days of HP Meme -- Day 4
Jul. 23rd, 2010 01:02 pm( Ghost of Questions Past )
Day 4. Favorite female character.
My flist members may be surprised to learn that my favorite female character is Molly Weasley.
What? You think I'm kidding? Well, okay, I am.
No, my favorite character is the that glorious Gloriana a.k.a. Minerva McGonagall. I've always had a thing for powerful, older women, and Minerva is one of the best. I could list my many reasons, but
pale_moonlite and
tetleythesecond and
minervas_eule and others have already done a fine job of outlining the kick-ass, soft-hearted, sharp-tongued, brave bundle of bunned sexiness that is Minerva. When I'm 70, I hope I'll be even half as "irascible" and "sprightly" and, when circumstances warrant, "superbly disdainful."
(Despite the various gender fails in HP, I love JKR for doing us proud with so many tough, cool, even dykey older women: Amelia Bones, Rolanda Hooch, Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, Augusta Longbottom, Poppy Pomfrey, Pomona Sprout, Batilda Bagshot, Griselda Marchbanks, Muriel Weasley. . .and I include Umbridge and Walburga Black despite their significant moral flaws; they's still fascinating, powerful female characters.)
