What's Up
What's Up with the US:
I quote the political historian Heather Cox Richardson, whose pithy, concise, accurate summaries of each day's political horrors are often the only piece of news I can stand to read per day:
"Throughout now-president Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, it was clear that his support was coming from three very different factions whose only shared ideology was a determination to destroy the federal government. Now we are watching them do it."
And they're trying to erase the very existence of trans and queer people while they're at it.
I trust I don't have to say anything further. You get the picture, I'm sure, and it's an evil and grim one.
What's Up with Me
Unlike the nation, I am not (yet) destroyed. In fact, I'm happy to report that -- ten weeks to the day since I broke my foot -- I am walking on my own again. The crutches have been put away in the closet; the air cast boot ditto (though I'm never going to get rid of it. If I dispose of it, I'd be pretty much asking for another break. But if I keep it, I might be safe. It's like rain -- if you take your umbrella with you, it won't rain. But if you don't. . .)
I'm walking very slowly and stiffly, to be sure, but I know I'll improve in time. Even though I sometimes feel an ache at the place where the actual break occurred, my main difficulty at the moment is with my knee. I think I strained it somehow when walking stiff-legged in the boot. But as I say, I'm sure these problems will be temporary and that I'll be able to move without limping soon.
Partner and I went to IKEA last week, and I can tell you, I have never been so happy just to walk around and look at housewares. (And eat meatballs, of course.) Today I took myself to the supermarket.
So my personal situation is much improved. I just wish the same could be said for American and global democracy!
Love you all! Stay "woke."

I think a lot of people still do not fully understand that to Donald Trump, there are no "friends" or "neighbors" or even just people you might not like but that you still need to get along with. There are either total submissive sycophants, or there are enemies. He doesn't get the concept of allies with whom you might cooperate. "Mutual benefit" is a foreign notion to him. There's only "winning" and "losing," and "winning" means that you totally crush whoever you see as your opponent. Anything else -- like a reasonable compromise, for instance -- is weakness.

Sending much love and solidarity from the UK. <3 I'm so sorry.

As I said to Zig above, the sooner American's former allies accept that the US is now their enemy, the safer you may be.
For Trump, there are no "allies" or "friends." There are only winners and losers, and for him to be a "winner," he must totally destroy and humiliate the "losers" (ie, everyone else).
