Some ramblings and a fic. . .
hp_spring_fling has started posting this week. I'm feeling nostalgic, because this was the first fest I participated in (last year), before I really had any idea how fests worked. (Somehow I just hadn't wrapped my mind around the whole "anonymous" thing. But now, I'm happy to say, I not only know how it works, but why. I didn't understand why it mattered to be anonymous, but now I do. People can respond to the fics and not to their friends or enemies; you can enjoy praise of your story without worrying, "did they say they liked it because it is good or because they're my friends"? [My mother always immediately discounted any compliment that came from an immediate family member -- "You have to say that," she's say.]) I'm not involved in Spring Fling as a writer this year, but I'll look forward to reading.
Someone sent my story Still Waters to
daily_snitch as a "Hot Rec." I don't know who was kind enough to do it, but if it was one of you dear flist members, I do thank you. (And someone did the same a few weeks back with the story I'm posting here today. Again, if it was one of you, thank you! It's a treat to see a story recced at
daily_snitch.)
Finally, today I'm posting my entry from the recent Winter Fic Exchange at
rarepair_shorts. I browbeat persuaded several of you to participate in this fest so that we could all have some nice old-woman femmeslash prompts, and then I ended up with a prompt asking for Remus/Cho, Harry/Bellatrix, and George/Snape. (Yeah, I know, it is a "rare pair" comm!)
But I found that I really enjoyed (in that masochistic, writerly way) the chance to write George/Snape. They have more in common than I would have thought, and since George is not a character to whom I normally pay much attention, it was fun to think my way into his head. I even got to indulge in second-person, which I really like but understand has to be used sparingly and only when psychologically suitable (as I hope it is here). Plus, it gave me a chance to write some darkfic again, which I haven't done for a while and always love.
So without further nattering, here is
