Femmefest Recs #3 -- OLSB
The OLSB (Old Lady Smut Brigade) rides again at this year's
femmefest in the form of several intriguing pieces featuring Minerva and the "old-lady" gang. Here's a run-down of some of my favorites:
Marvelous Minerva Art (with Hooch)
Title: A Lifetime of Love
Artist:Anonymous for now
gesges
Pairing: Minerva/Hooch
This beautifully-drawn art just pushes all my Kittyhawk buttons, showing Rolanda and Minerva at all the stages of their lives, in quiet times and active times, old and young, bright and subdued, human and not. And the artist does a wonderful job with hair. I just love this.
Fantastic Fics
Title: They Say It's Your Birthday
Artist:Anonymous for now
frnklymrshnkly
Pairing: Minerva/Hooch
This story is a hoot and a half, packed with hilarious lines and images and overall OLSB bad-assery. But it's not fluff or crack; there's seriousness mixed in. The characterizations, perhaps, are stretched to the edge of canon, but you need to suspend only a tiny bit of disbelief. I thoroughly enjoyed this fic and these women. And don't miss the tags -- worth a rec in themselves. (Plus Beatles! And ELO!)
Title: Rioja and Chatter
Author:Anonymous for now
ayebydan
Pairing: Minerva/Poppy
This story was my glorious gift, and what a lovely present it is, filled with so many of the things I love: a nuanced picture of Minerva, angst mixed with comfort, a sense of the complexity that comes with the lessons learned from long experience. Plus great lines like this one (which is ultra-romantic to mel it's just how you feel about a new lover -- "I want to know it all"): "Have we not talked enough about school and colleagues? Tell me of something else. Tell me everything else."
And these aren't the only "old lady" fics; check out the other fine ones at the fest.
I've now mostly caught up on my reading -- looking forward to a leisurely read of the last two long entries.
